Tuckamore Lodge
,Main Brook, NL Tuckamore Lodge is one of nicest places we have stayed in Atlantic Canada. it has a superb setting and very comfortable rooms. They also serve hearty dinners and breakfasts. They make a good location from which to plan your own trips to north to St Anthony or south to Englee. They even have sauna which is located next to the lake so you can heat up and cool down as you like. And we saw more moose recently when we were in the area for the Iceberg Festival than we could believe. We stayed here again in late summer 2011 and owner Barb Genge told us about numerous hiking trails to try. Click Tuckamore for more images. |

Southwest Pond Cabins, St. Lunaire Griquet, Newfoundland These cabins are a great find when visiting the St. Anthony-L'anse aux Meadows area. They are clean and quiet and have all the comforts of home. Most are 2 bedroom units and there is a BBQ on the deck. The kitchens are well equipped and there is a pond and playground on site. They are close to L'anse aux Meadows Natural Historic Site and Norstead. There is a boat tour nearby. There are also many nearby hiking trails for those people who like to see the landscape on foot. You can also use them as a base to visit St. Anthony area. For more information: http://southwestpondcabins.com/ |

St Christopher's Hotel, Port aux Basques, Newfoundland
We recently stayed here while attending the Feather and Folk Nature Festival held May 27 to June 6, 2011. We wanted to take in an event that featured many local musicians which was held in the conference room at the hotel. The rooms are nicely equipped and very comfortable and the hotel has a fine view overlooking the harbour. If you are catching the ferry you can even see it coming into port past your bedroom window. There is much to see in the local area and if you have good weather the nearby beaches at Cheeseman Park are well worth visiting. There is also good birdwatching there. See: http://www.stchrishotel.com/ for details. For more photos see Christopher's |

Fisherman's Landing Inn, Rocky Harbour, NL This hotel is spacious and we stayed here during the Trails, Tales and Tunes Festival in May, 2011. It has 40 rooms and a couple of suites as well as a conference centre. There is an outdoor hot tub but unfortunately we forgot our bathing suits. Next time! It is centrally located in Rocky Harbour, is ranked at 3.5 stars and we found it very comfortable. There is also a large entrance area with a cozy fireplace. There is much to see and do in Gros Morne from hiking to boat tours to learning about its unique geology. And watch out for moose. They have some of the highest moose populations in the world. For more information see: http://fishermanslandinginn.com/. For more pictures of the Trails, Tales and Tunes Festival see Fisherman. |

OceanView Hotel, Rocky Harbour, NL
The photo to the left was taken from our balcony window! As you can see this place really lives up to its name. The Ocean View Hotel is located right across the street from the ocean and it is in the centre of the community of Rocky Harbour in Gros Morne National Park. The Ocean View is a popular place to hear traditional music in the summer and has a restaurant on the second floor which overlooks the sea. We stayed here most recently when we attended the 'don't miss' Trails, Tales and Tunes Festival in May, 2011. I have taken several photos of that festival that you can see here: OceanView. For more information see: http://www.theoceanview.ca/.

Wood'n Bed and Breakfast- Kippens, Newfoundland The Wood'n Bed and Breakfast will appeal to anyone who loves wood...and who doesn't it. We stayed here recently while attending the Feather and Folk Nature Festival and owner, Linda Alexander, impressed us by getting up to make breakfast after a late night at Emile's Pub where she is involved with the local Folk Arts Council. (If you are staying in here on the last Saturday of the month then this Folk Arts night is well worth attending.) The B and B has some rooms with an ensuite bath and others that have a shared bath. There is a large common area with comfy couches and if you want to make yourself a cup of tea, the kitchen is right there. See: http://www.bbcanada.com/8809.html for more info. Cape Anguille Lighthouse Inn
If you like the view from the photo on the right...that is what we saw from our bedroom window recently. Cape Anguille must have one of the best sunsets in Western Newfoundland and fortunately you can stay right there. Cape Anguiile Lighthouse Inn has an amazing setting and uses a couple of historic lighthouse buildings for as a Bed and Breakfast. It is located in the Codroy Valley of Western Newfoundland and there is lots to do here from hiking the Starlight Lodge trail to going birdwatching or playing golf. The innkeepers have kept things rustic with no TV or wireless so it is an ideal place to relax and enjoy the view. For more pictures of the Inn click Anguille and for more info click http://linkumtours.com |

Captain Cook B and B and Cottages, York Harbour, NL
This is a great find for anyone interested in a seaside place to stay. We stayed in a cottage right on the ocean and loved its tucked away feel. The 2 bedroom cottage (Captain's Quarters) is well appointed-all you need to bring is the food and sea kayaks. We also think this area has some of the best coastal hiking in the province and the hike up nearby Blow me down gets my vote as the best accessible mountain hike in Atlantic Canada. Also on site are other cottages and regular B and B style rooms. The Captain's Quarters is 3.5 stars and even has a washer and dryer. Our only disappointment is that we didn't plan on staying longer. To get to York Harbour, drive along the South Shore of the Bay of Islands near Corner Brook. For more images click Cook |

Mayflower Inn, Roddickton, NL
The Mayflower Inn is located in Roddickton on the Northern Peninsula of Newfoundland. We visited there as part of the recent Iceberg Festival in June 2009 and really enjoyed the area. This region calls itself the "moose capitol" of Newfoundland and for good reason. There were moose everywhere...especially along the side of the road. We also enjoyed a geocaching outing to Englee that the Mayflower Inn has organized. There are fine hiking trails in Englee and I recommend the Barr'd Island trail with its great views of icebergs and the community of Englee. Also close by is the underground salmon river.Click Mayflower for more images and information. |

Grenfell Heritage
Hotel and Suites, St. Anthony, NL
This is a fine new addition to the accommodation in St. Anthony. We were there as part of the June 2009 Iceberg Festival and really appreciated comfortable beds and large rooms. Also nearby is the Grenfell Interpretation Centre and Northland Discovery Boat Tour. You can hike the Tea House Trail for a fine view of St. Anthony right from your hotel. It is well suited to families who want to bring some food and cook in their room and they also serve a light continental breakfast. We spent a night there again in the late summer of 2010 and enjoyed having a BBQ on the deck. For more images of the hotel and the surrounding area click Grenfell Heritage. |

Valhalla Lodge,
The Valhalla Lodge is located on a height of land with a fabulous view. Unfortunately when we were there it was misty and foggy so we couldn't fully appreciate it but the outside deck would be impressive on a clear day. We were in the area for the 2009 Iceberg Festival and saw lots of bergs while we were there. And moose...Bella Hodge, the owner, says she doesn't have to cut the lawn -the moose do it for her. She serves a fine breakfast with local berries and be sure to have a meal at the Norseman. It was a real highlight of our most recent trip. Click Valhalla for more photos and information |

Gros
Morne Resort, St Paul's, NL Gros Morne Resort is a full fledged resort with golf course, hotel and RV park located along the shores of St. Paul's Inlet in Gros Morne National Park. Nearby are kilometers of sandy beaches at Cowhead and spectacular Western Brook Pond is just a few minutes away. On our recent visit we enjoyed a round of golf and sea kayaked on St Paul's Inlet. We also trekked into Western Brook Pond in search of views and moose. We got our fill of the former but struck out on our moose sitings. We were also impressed with the accommodations with their 10 foot ceilings and large rooms with a fireplace and wet bar. The restaurant served a variety of sea food and we weren't disappointed with the entre appropriately called the seafood celebration (which featured a mix of seafood). Battle Harbour,
Labrador Battle Harbour is a gem on the Labrador Coast. It is now accessible by road from Red Bay and makes traveling this new Labrador Highway well worth it. Don't be put off with the gravel road - we found that was well maintained and in good condition. Battle Harbour recreates an historic salt fish enterprise on the Coast of Labrador. You can stay for the day via a short boat trip from Mary's Harbour but I suggest you stay the night in the Battle Harbour Inn or one of the other restored houses. The tour of the island is first class and it makes for a great weekend trip. Check out the Battle Harbour web site for more details. |
