Sea Kayaking in Prince Edward Island - Sea Kayaking in P.E.I.
Islands are always great paddling destinations and P.E.I. is no different. Paddling here is tamer than many parts of the Canadian Atlantic Coast and there are many rivers to paddle as well as the open ocean. If readers have more suggestions-let me know at knicol@swgc.mun.ca

Paddling at Victoria by the Sea One of the highlights of our recent kayak trip to PEI was going out with Paul Sheridan, owner of By the Sea Kayaking in Victoria, PEI. He runs a kayak-clam tour which he calls "I dig therefore I clam" and it was fabulous. We like to do authentic activities on our holidays and we had never been clamming before. We joined a couple from Toronto for a short 20 minute paddle to an offshore sand bar where we then raked for bar clams. We almost didn't get a chance to go because the weather looked stormy but in fact that added to the experience. After he had found about 9 clams we headed back and Paul made a delicious clam chowder before our eyes. Don't miss this trip. Paddling the
Brudenell "River" - PEI Paddling in PEI has lots of options and one that is ideal for families or for novices is the Brudenell River. This is really a protected estuary and offers an easy paddle for those that want to see the PEI shoreline from a water craft. We recently joined Outside Expeditions for 1/2 day paddle.. The tour was a relaxing paddle past mussel farms, eagles, cormorants and wooded shorelines. The ocean on this day was almost flat calm and our guide, Jesse Sharratt, told us that it is often like this, making it an idea trip for novices. Paddling North Rustico - PEI We recently joined Outside Expeditions for a paddle in this classic part of PEI. We joined 2 other paddlers from New Jersey and were treated to lots of bird life along the shore. We even saw 5 herons at one time along the beach. The shoreline is partly beach and partly cliff face which seems to be eroding at quick rate these days. Our guide Ryan Young said that the cliffs are eroding at about 1 meter/year in places. We did the half day tour which covered about 9 km of very pleasant paddling. For more information contact OUTSIDE EXPEDITIONS and for more pictures click NORTH RUSTICO. |

Paddling Malpeque Bay - PEI We recently had the chance to sea kayak in Malpeque Bay and we even had chance to eat their famous oysters in a nearby restaurant. We joined Malpeque Bay Kayak Tours run by Anne Murray and did a nice paddle to Ram Island. We had lots of company with people from Texas, Ontario, and New Brunswick joining us for the trip. The bird life was amazing on the island and if you go on a full day paddle you could visit other islands or paddle along the shoreline depending on wind and weather conditions. Malpeque Bay Kayak Tours offers kayak-art classes which proved to be very popular this year. For more information contact Malpeque Bay Kayak Tours and click Malpeque for more pictures. |
