Alpine Skiing in New Brunswick

New Brunswick has 4 Alpine Ski Areas and visited 3 of them on our most recent trip. We started in the North and traveled south so we stopped at Mt Farlange first, then traveled to Crabbe and then Poley Mountain.

Mt. Farlange is located in Edmundston in northern New Brunswick. Mt. Farlange has a vertical drop of 575 Feet and 22 trails. It opened in 1969 and is conveniently located just a few minutes from town. Eighty percent of the hill has snowmaking and it had a nice variety of terrain from groomers to mogul runs. They also have a terrain park right in front of the lodge and had new "wall" feature which was attracting alot of attention when we were there. Farlange is great for night skiing with the lights of Edmundston and St. Jacques twinkling in valley below. We skied the 2,600 foot quad chair as well as the 2,300 foot t-bar the night we were there. Crabbe Mountain is located near Fredericton, New Brunswick and has the largest vertical in the province. The day we arrived fog blanketed the upper slopes but we fortunately the lower slopes had good visibility. I joined the marketing manager and general manager for several runs on the open groomers and through the trees on their gladed runs. The vertical is over 850 feet and on a clear day I'm told you can see Mt. Katadin in Maine. Their terrain park has 19 features spread over one entire run and they like to leave part of the hill ungroomed to appeal to those that like to ski powder. Poley Mountain is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and they have some big expansion plans in mind. They have cut several new runs and plan to install a triple chair in the next year. Poley specializes in the beginner skier and just installed a new magic carpet lift to which has really helped says manager Cathy Cote. Several ski instructors showed me the runs and we had a beautiful sunny day to check out the views from the top of the mountain. Poley is near Sussex in southern New Brunswick and has a vertical drop of 660 feet and 23 trails.
