Sea Kayaking in Western Newfoundland- Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland.
Gros Morne is one of the most popular summer destinations to visitors to Newfoundland. It has fjords to rival Norway, long sand beaches and great kayaking. Much of it is also an exposed coast, so you need to take care here. Below are some of the easier paddles in the park.

Kayaking Trout River Ponds- We recently paddled in Gros Morne National Park and a good spot for those interested in paddling one of the park's inland fjords is Upper and Lower Trout River Pond. It is also one of the few launch spots in the province where you can actually drive your car to within a few feet of your put in. The views only get better as you paddle east from one pond to the next but beware of the rising west wind which often sets in around noon and lasts most of the afternoon. Also don't be mislead by the name "pond", these 2 ponds are close to 15 km long, but you can have a fine paddle just by paddling Lower Trout River Pond. Click TROUT for more images. |

Kayaking Gros Morne National Park-Norris Point - We recently kayaked "the tickle" at Norris Point which is an ideal launch point for exploring Bonne Bay in Western Newfoundland. The area offers grand views of the Tablelands (the rare reddish brown rock for which the park is famous) and is relatively well protected. We joined Gros Morne Adventures for a kayak trip to Rattling Brook and then back towards Gadd's Harbour and on to Shag Cliff. We rafted up in the protected water of Gadd's Harbour and took pictures of the group with the park's other icon-Gros Morne Mtn in the background. For more photos click BONNE BAY. |
