Ohm's Law

Element 1        Element 2        Element 3

Please wait until the applet has completely loaded, then Start.

Description:

The left panel shows one of three unknown circuit elements connected to a voltage source.  The circuit voltage is controlled by the slider at lower left. Voltage is measured by the voltmeter (solid green circle) in parallel with the unknown element, and is given in volts (V). The current is measured by an ammeter (solid yellow circle) in series with the unknown element, and is given in milliamps (mA).

Voltage and current values can be read by placing the cursor over either meter or from the graph in the right panel using a left-button mouse click.

Click the name of each element in turn to place it in the circuit, then change the voltage slider to graph the current response of the circuit.

Question:

Which elements obey Ohm's law? Explain your reasons for, or against each element.
