Programme Note

Prelude and Fugue After Bach uses as its source the first prelude and fugue from Book One of the Well-tempered Klavier of J. S. Bach. I have attempted to direct the listener to a fresh approach to this well-known masterpiece of the baroque period.

The work was commissioned by the Canadian Music Competitions through a grant from the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council, and is dedicated to Marie Savard and Frank Smith.
