Programme Note

"I have lately been quite interested in older music, especially pre-baroque, and this interest has crept into Blomidon. I was also fascinated by the instrumentation dictated for Blomidon. Thus, I have attempted to contrast and exploit the three groups of instruments presented: strings, winds and percussion. Each group is displayed on its own with the other two groups attempting to imitate the qualities of the other.

The title of the work refers to the Blomidon mountain range which could be seen outside my window in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. Just as my interest in older music crept into the piece, so did the timeless influence of the Blomidons dictate the mood and atmosphere of the work."
