Shirley Greer
"A
series of bizarre co-incidences in the summer of 1999 led to my
enrolling in Sir Wilfred Grenfell College’s
Fine Arts Program. I was 53 at the time. I graduated with my BFA
(visual) four years later, with no expectations for what might lie ahead
for me as an artist. I loved the university environment, the learning
and research opportunities, and all the wonderful discoveries that I was
making there.
In fact, what lay ahead for me were
connections in a community of artists, opportunities to show and sell my
work, opportunities for residencies, teaching, grants, travel and
continued growth both as an artist and a person. There was also a fresh
new focus, new conversations, a new beginning. Discovering these
opportunities at this point in my life has been a most wonderful gift."
