Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, in partnership with Pròiseact nan Ealan, the Gaelic Arts Agency  of Scotland, the Ireland Business Partnerships, Province of Newfoundland and Labrador (Thalamh an Éisc) and the Ireland Newfoundland Partnerships  is pleased to be a part of the An Leabhar Mòr, The Great Book of Gaelic international tour. We are especially pleased to announce that Grenfell College is the first stop on the North American tour of An Leabhar Mòr.

The Leabhar Mòr exhibition and Gaelic Arts Festival is a significant international cultural event. An Leabhar Mòr fosters a timely convergence of historic and cultural connections between Ireland and Newfoundland and Labrador. At Grenfell College, we seek to explore the shared traditions between Newfoundland and Labrador and the Gaelic Cultures of Ireland and Scotland. In fact, Newfoundland and Labrador is the only place outside Europe that is known by a Gaelic name. It translates as “Thalamh an Éisc,” or Land of the fish (fishing ground). To explore this and other intriguing connections, we have organized an exciting program of public events that will accompany The Great Book exhibition at the Grenfell Gallery, The gallery and Sir Wilfred Grenfell College invite you to discover our shared heritage during the Gaelic Arts Festival, June 12 to 18, 2008.
